Formed by songwriter and guitarist Bob Hartman in 1972, Petra would go on to forge a new chapter in music history - picking up four GRAMMY® Awards, millions of album sales and dozens of iconic songs in a catalog spanning virtually all nuances of 'classic rock'.
Despite frequent personnel changes and a core audience at first both unfamiliar and resistant to rock music, Hartman and Petra soldiered on. The band's 1986 album Back To The Street ushered in new vocalist John Schlitt (previously of Head East) and producers John and Dino Elefante (Kansas®), and Petra took its place as an institution in both the Classic Rock and CCM genres.
Petra is both inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and enshrined at Hard Rock Cafe - perhaps a fitting testament to the band's ability to break barriers.
Following a two-year reunion of Petra's mid-80s line-up (as Classic Petra), Bob Hartman and John Schlitt team up once again for the band's 40th Anniversary as part of the Classic Rock Tour 2012-'13, joined by members from Petra's past, present and future.
